BSMS Boosters Meeting

Covid testing

November’s teacher feature wants to take a moment to recognize Mrs. Peace! Mrs. Peace is our 8th grade Science teacher, and is an amazing member of the BSMS faculty. She is also a BSMS alumni! “I grew up in the Patterson area of Elm Grove so I attended Elm Grove Elementary, Bridge Street Middle School, and then Wheeling Park High School.”
Mrs. Peace had an active experience at WPHS and went on to WVU:
“In high school, I participated in strings, cross country, track and field, and basketball. After high school, I attended West Virginia University and graduated with a Bachelors in Multidisciplinary Studies and a Masters in Secondary Education.”
Mrs. Peace has been working in education for Ohio County Schools for ten years:
“This is my tenth year of teaching. I spent the first seven years of teaching at Wheeling Park High School. At Park, I taught honors and non-honors classes including Medical Terminology, Biology, Physical Science, and Earth & Space Science. In 2019, I transferred to Bridge Street and have been here ever since.”
Mrs. Peace’s knowledge and passion regarding the sciences is second to none. She loves using her knowledge to help students grow, and she knows how to enjoy the humorous moments during the school year:
“My favorite thing about teaching is getting to know my students and watching them gain confidence in learning difficult topics like chemistry and genetics. I also enjoy the funny things my students say. I write down the funniest quotes in my quote book. On the last day of each school year, I read these quotes to the students and we all get a good laugh.”
Mrs. Peace really appreciates teaching labs.
“I love teaching labs. No other subject gets to dissect or set things on fire or teach why we have certain genetic traits.”
When not teaching, Mrs. Peace loves exploring our home state with her family and finding calm during yoga:
“In my free time, I enjoy hiking and camping with my husband and two children, Avery and Eli. We travel all summer in our little camper to our favorite spots in lower West Virginia and across the country. At home, I can be found binge watching Friends and reading to my kids. I also enjoy yoga and am working toward a 200hr yoga teacher certification.”
A fun fact about Mrs. Peace?
“The summer after I graduated from WVU, my best friend Claire and I traveled the country for three and a half weeks to see as many National Parks as possible. During our visit to the Grand Canyon, I was posing for a picture and nearly fell into the expansive ravine that is Arizona’s best national park. In my defense, it was very windy that day!”
Thank you Mrs. Peace for all you do for our school and our students! We are so lucky to have you as a valued member of the BSMS family.
