Congratulations to Ohio County Schools winners in the Region 6 Math Field Day!!!
Math Field Day was held Saturday at Wheeling Park High School with an estimated 150 students in grades 4-12 taking part in the annual competition that involves “mental math” and “number-sense” activities. The top three students in grades 4-9 and the top 10 students in grades 10-12 advance to the West Virginia Math Field Day competition that will be held April 22 at West Virginia University.

In fourth grade, Hudson Bradshaw, of Woodsdale Elementary School, won first place, and Abigail Lewis, of Elm Grove Elementary School, placed third.
In fifth grade, Peilin Yu, of Steenrod Elementary School, earned first place, and Yu was also the Estimation Room winner. Levi Helms, of Woodsdale, placed third.
In sixth grade, Sam Lewis, of Bridge Street Middle School, finished third.
In seventh grade, Alexei Zhao, of Triadelphia Middle School, claimed first place, and Rex Montany, also of Triadelphia, placed third.
In eighth grade, Triadelphia was also successful with Nathan Tyska, winning first place in the grade level and in the Estimation Room competition. Triadelphia’s Julia Dunaway placed second.
In Grades 10-12, Wheeling Park’s Kathryn Prather was the first-place winner, and and Patriot Nakayi Simoyi placed sixth.

The Ohio County Board of Education will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2022-2023 school calendar at 5:45 p.m. on March 28 at the Board Office at 2203 National Road. The regular meeting of the Ohio County Board of Education will follow at 6 p.m. Both the public hearing and the regular meeting can be seen live on the Ohio County Schools Youtube channel OCS Video.
7th grade students in Mrs. Safreed’s class are debunking a famous mystery that fairies existed in England over 100 years ago. Students took on the role of podcasters and newscasters to record their thoughts.
Mr. Dague’s science classes are working on creating earthquake resistant buildings.
BSMS Flex Language Class is building three Paris landmarks. This group was assigned a 3D puzzle of the Eiffel Tower and finished the famous tower today in class. We think it looks great. Be on the lookout for the other two completed landmarks soon!
Financial Literacy Cafe was a hit. Ms Ritz’s class ran their second cafe for staff and this time added delivery! Students worked on customer service, calculating costs, tips, organization and having fun!
Eighth grade Bridge Street students are preparing to schedule for the high school by discussing course options with our counselor, Mrs. Rose!
Mrs. Moffa’s sixth grade science students are replicating the solar system to scale. What a great way to gain perspective!
Our March Teacher Feature would like to recognize Mrs. Heather Vickers!
Mrs. Vickers attended Martins Ferry grades K-12. She graduated from OUE in St. Clairsville in 2000 and got her Master’s Degree in Reading in 2010. She has been teaching for 22 years!
Mrs. Vickers has many things she loves about her career, but her favorite is obvious to anyone who steps foot in her classroom: “I LOVE interacting with and teaching students! I love hearing their thoughts and ideas and watching them grow and learn with me!”
Her favorite part about teaching ELA? “We have a FABULOUS TIME learning how to better our writing with details and evidence! We read A LOT of non-fiction to respond to with writing! IT IS MY FAVORITE!”
In her free time, Mrs. Vickers spends time with my husband and 4 dogs. They love to go for walks and try new places to eat! A final fun fact? She collects pigs! Mrs. Vickers has over 100 pigs and counting! Thank you Mrs. Vickers. Your students and our school are so grateful for you!
