Last week, our 8th grade ELA classes have been reading, writing and learning in SCOPE magazine about Melody Day, a 6th grade student with cerebral palsy. Melody wanted to design an all inclusive playground at her school because she felt left out.
Because the YMCA had recently dedicated an all-inclusive playground RIGHT HERE IN OUR COMMUNITY, our students had a real world example to visit! While there, BSMS students made observations about how the playground was similar and different to Melody’s playground and a traditional one such as Wheeling Park or Oglebay!

Students have been participating in team building activities during our daily Street Time. They will soon be transitioning into weekly student-teacher mentor conferences, small groups, and character-focused lessons!

September 12!

The Books-A-Million Summer Book Drive was again a great benefit to the students of Ohio County Schools!
Books-A-Million at the Highlands held a donation drive over the summer for customers to purchase books for Ohio County Schools students. Customers selected books from a list of favorites provided by school system administrators and teachers based on student popularity, and the books are still being delivered to the schools. Ohio County Schools Federal Programs Director Walt Saunders thanked Books-A-Million and General Manager Aaron Baker for the contribution to Ohio County Schools and its students.
